Panasonic HC-VX1 versus Panasonic HC-WXF1
Guys, I need your thoughts regarding the video quality of the Panasonic HC-VX1 versus the Panasonic HC-WXF1. Should both of these cameras shoot the same quality of video, that is without adjusting any of the manual settings?
Thanks for any feedback. |

Re: Panasonic HC-VX1 versus Panasonic HC-WXF1
My gut reaction is "whichever one costs more" as both are very affordable handy cams.
The demo video is quite nice. That said, when you drill down on the specs for both cameras, the sensor size is comparatively very small so you won't be the best in low light levels - but that goes with the turf (as one might say). Andrew |

Both have the same sized sensor. I did google-fu them but haven't had the time to compare the spec sheets in detail. Have you found any stated differences between them in the marketing materials?

Re: Panasonic HC-VX1 versus Panasonic HC-WXF1
I have both cams, but I only got the VX1 after I got a little scratch on my lens, I asked several people online if the VX1 would give the same quality video, and I was told yes and the only reason the WXF1 was more expensive was due to the sec small cam on the side and it had a viewfinder. But I feel like the video quality isn't as good.

If you have both cameras, then it should only take you an hour or so to find out if they look the same or not. Why not do some testing of your own rather than relying on other people who may or may not know what the hell they are talking about? Do your own testing.

Well of course I did that Doug Jensen, but the question still remains. Should the Panasonic HC-VX1 and Panasonic HC-WXF1 shoot the same quality video?

Yes, they should shoot the same quality of video. Do they?

Re: Panasonic HC-VX1 versus Panasonic HC-WXF1
Electronically they are the exact same camera under the hood. Kind of like the Sony Z90, NX80, and AX700 are all the same camera but with a few different bells and whistles that have nothing to do with picture quality.
How you "feel" doesn't matter. Are they the same or not? That is quantifiable. Like I pointed out before, YOU have both cameras so it should be no problem to determine without any doubt whether they look the same or not. If they are not the same in low-light, then you should be able to state the difference in terms of f-stops or shutter speed. Differences in color rendition, sharpness, etc. would be harder to describe, but light-sensitivity is easy to compare.

Doug can be a little salty but he's right on this. It's ridiculous, you own both cameras, film a test and post the video results. Why are you wasting our time?

I myself was surprised to learn that you had both cameras and yet were asking us whether one was better than the other. The very first thing to do would be to shoot footage and compare between the two.
