Thread confusion at DVinfo.net

I just aquired a TM900 and when looking for tips and advice I came across this thread. Now I am more confused than ever. Is there anyway to break it down a bit? Too much information. A lot I can use no doubt, but it is like wading through the rubble to get to the street.
