problems

I am shooting a feature on the DVX -100 and just completed my first ten days of shooting , This feature is going to be transferred to 35 mm finally. We discovered glitches , if that is the right term in some of our footage , we tried changing tapes , cleaning the head and covered every other angle we thought might be causing the problem, we hadve come to the conclusion the problem is not with the tapes but with the camera . Finally we have asked for another camera from Panasonic and will be resuming our shoot after testing the new cam, Has anyone been faced with such a problem with the DVX-100. The glitches show up like drop outs ( coloured pixels) and we also had the image break up at certain points, in one shot we lost an ok take as black stripes just ate into the end of the shot! so its all a little mysterious and very stressful ... since it is a new medium here everyone has a theory and i dont know what to trust !!Also when there is an image break , the audio is not affected .

You got "glitches" when playing back in-camera? If that's the case read this:

If you got "glitches" when uploading via firewire, then that's probably a in-camera "firmware" problem.

thanks , the article was really helpful.. the cam is brand new and we have used only panasonic tapes all along , also serviced the cam after we saw these glitches and cleaned the head so think the problem might be in the alignment of the head . we are under the warranty period now so panasonic is replacing the cam .

Preetha,

You might want to look through this thread for Charles' remarks, if you've not already done so.
