examine the above chart from the dvx100 and tell me I am wrong but wheres all the detail gone from the darker greyscales? |

The problem is with the chart, not the camera. I used a $70 commercial resolution test pattern from Edmund Industrial Optics, but it was apparently printed for resolution rather than accurate grey scale. In the original chart the greys are compressed just as you see, it is not the camera at all. I only posted the chart so you could see the resolution (and color fringing phenomenon).
