Thin black stripe at the right of the image?
I just got a DVX100 and it's very nice. I just did some quick qualification tests. General image quality seems very good however I'm seeing problems at the edge of the screen. On the right edge there are 3 rows of black pixels running the height of the screen. On the left edge there is one darkened row and then one lightened row. This is not an artifact of the matte box adapter (I removed it). I'm a little bummed if this is "just the way it is" with this camera. I've observed a similar problem with the XL-1. Older broadcast cameras also could have some weird stuff out on the edges. It won't matter for normal broadcast because it's way out in the overscan area. The problem is that it is visible in web streaming and video projection. You can process it out by scaling the whole image up in your NLE but who wants to process all their footage through another filter?
Has anyone else observed this artifact in their digitized clips? Maybe I just have a bum unit... --- Mark www.seriousmagic.com |

Yes, this is normal
Mark,
This was one of the first things noted when people first started taking delivery of the DVX-100 back in October 2002. I was a little bummed as well, but most cameras have some sort of edge issues. Regards, Aric |

Aric,
Thanks for the info. I hadn't seen that. My most recent "tiny cam" was the Sony TRV-900 and its entire image area was clean. I guess I got spoiled. --- Mark www.seriousmagic.com |
