What the different of 1/3" 3CCD & 1/4" 3CCD

Can someone explain to me What's the different between or meaning of 1/3 inch or 1/4 inch or 2/4 inch 3CCD?

The CCD is the eye of the cam. Bigger is better; bigger CCD pixels is better; more video effective pixels is better.

Another thing that interests most video filmmakers, is the fact that bigger CCD's give you a shallower depth of field (Assuming everything else like fstop is equivalent).
