HMC40P record time limit? at DVinfo.net

I've been recording several musical events… typically a little over an hour for each set… and I let the camera record non stop for each set. When I look at my recorded files, however, that period of time is broken up into two files… with several frames missing at the "break" point. Same is true for the second set.

I'm using a 32 gig SD card Class 10. Looking at the file sizes, the break seems to happen at just over 13 gigs. Is this a built-in file size limit for this camera or am I missing a setting somewhere? I was under the impression that the camera will record for 12 hours continuously.

Anybody?

Hi RB,

I'm actually surprised that you're getting pieces that large, as AVCHD cameras usually make smaller chunks. Something to do with the file system used on the SD cards.

What NLE software do you use? If Premiere Pro, here's the fix - copy the ENTIRE contents of the SD card to your hard drive - not just the "video" clips. All folders intact. Then in Premiere, rather than using File > Import, go to the Media Browser. When importing via Media Browser, it properly recognizes the AVCHD file structure and associated folders, and will import your "broken up clips" as one long clip into the Sequence, glitch-free.

Other NLEs, can't help you, but know that technically you should not be missing any frames between the clips, the data is there, but it's up to the NLE to properly recognize how to assemble those clips again.

thx much for the info… I've been importing into FCP after a file conversion process with iSkySoft (cheap I know but it seems to do a decent conversion) but clearly missing something!

I'll try an import into Premiere as you suggested… and thx again for the suggestion!
