So my HMC40 died...

My father, who is also a poster on this site, borrowed my HMC40 on a gig at Lambeau Field to shoot B-roll. Apparently it worked fine on the plane when they were flying to Wisconsin, however, when it was stored in a camera bag in the luggage area on a bus for the trip to the field, it was DOA. Battery or AC, it won't turn on. I get the camera back today and will check it out then, however, I'm guessing it's going to be a warranty repair.

He said it couldn't have been impact damage and that it wasn't a particularly bumpy bus ride either. I'm at a total loss.

Any thoughts here?
