After a week of steers and ducks and mechanical bulls, the dogs wrapped up the animal shows at the St. Lucie County Fair on Saturday.

This is the first assignment where I was fiddling with the gain on practically every shot. I had a hard time getting any contrast with the dark dogs inside the shady arena, so up the gain went (I topped out at +18 dB). I also manually set the white balance at the 5600K preset (I have found that to be a great all-purpose setting). I didn't use my monopod this time around, as the last time I used it in that arena, I set it down squarely in a fresh cow patty. That was delightful.
