XLR ADAPTER for HMC40

Just got all my gear!
However, i'm a little confused by the docs about use of the XLR adapter.
There is a switch which has 2 settings:
ch1-2
ch2
The docs state Ch1-2 setting signals input from input2 connector to both channels
and ch2 setting with give signals to ch1 from input1 connector and signals to ch2 from input2 connector.
If I am only using a single xlr device, my ntg1 rode mic, what setting is best and what connector should i attach it to???
thanks!

Hi Michael,

I don't have the XLR adapter for the HMC40, but generally speaking, this is the way it works. If you have two sound sources, Rode shotgun and a wireless, plug each unit into an XLR jack, and set it up for channel 1 from input 1 and channel two from input 2.

When using a single audio device, plug the XLR into input 2 and use the Ch 1-2 setting. That way the mic will go to both channels. It's not stereo, but it is on both channels. You can confirm this with the VU meters as well as plugging some headphones in to monitor the audio. If you don't select the Ch 1-2 setting, the shotgun mic will be on channel 2 and nothing will be on channel 1, so in post you will have to use a Pan/Pot filter to get audio on both channels.
