That does look pretty good. I was holding off buying a cam but got impatient and got the 150. No regrets though. Still, this would make an awesome B cam.

I examined the footage on both my iMAC's screen and my HDTV's screen. Because this is second (or third) generation and highly compressed I can't be 100% sure what is a compression artifact and what is from the camera. In the night shots, some of the shots showed an odd compression noise pattern, it might be image noise from high gain.
Over all the image looked sharp and the colors were good. Granted it was only a 720/25p image, but the 720p still looked good. The camera appeared to do low light filming better than I would have expected. I'm sure the gain was high in some shots, but the image held up reasonably well. It would be nice to be able to see the source file and know the settings. Even better, to have a side by side comparison with the HMC-150. ... I guess we'll have to wait for that. Now I'm going to go nuts waiting for DV Expo and my chance to get my hands on a unit... Bob Diaz |
