Best editing solution? at DVinfo.net

I am heading to Haiti soon to live; I plan to set up a blog site but also to take documentary footage of life there, over time.

I am pretty set on buying one of these, but remain uncertain about what editing software/hardware to buy.

a) How good is the bundled software?
b) I understand that FCE does not handle the higher quality setting well
c) FCP is clearly an attractive option, but expensive... how important is it these days to have things in FCP form?
d) Are there any PC solutions that genuinely edit this natively?
