Optimal camera setup
I'm about to purchase an HMC150. I anticipate getting one this month. I have a question about setting up hardware to go with it. Any input would be appreciated.
Two of my clients desire raw footage to be delivered on MiniDV (or DVCPro) tapes. Would anyone, for any reason, advise against getting a MiniDV deck on which to record? I have been looking at a the JVC SR-DVM600 and the Sony HVR-M15AU. Any other suggestions? Thanks. B |

Well you can output thru regular RCA to a miniDV deck and the 150 will downconvert it to SD in camera as it outputs. Or you could transcode to DV and output from your time line to DV tape.
The easiest would be to just shoot to DV tape :) |

Except that HMC150 does not come with a tape drive.
QUESTION - Are you recording SD or HD on miniDV tapes? |

SD. If HD is required I'll give them the card or a hard drive. I've worked something out where I can use the equipment from a local production house, but I'd still like to own my own deck.

Best will be to get a Sony DSR-25 tape deck (or whatever model they have in USA) - it records DVCAM and miniDV tapes.
