Problem viewing mpeg in XP

Hello everyone!

I have many problems, but right now, this one is bugging me the most. Every time I open a folder that contains an mpeg file, my video card / monitor resets it's resolution to 800x600. This is extremely annoying, and I haven't been able to find anyone else with this problem. I'm running a 7800GT with windows XP SP2. Anyone know whats going on?

Hello Joe
Need a little more info on this one, what player are you using to view files?
What are the display settings of your monitor and desktop?
Have you made any adjustments to the default settings of your video card?
What are the video codec's installed on your system?
Does this occur on all mpeg's?

Cheers
Allan

Hi Allen, thanks for the quick response!

Default player for the files is Windows Media Player, but the problem occurs when I open a folder with an mpeg file in, not actually opening the file itself.

I am using a 32inch samsung tv for my monitor at the moment, display settings are 1360x768.

I've made no adjustments to the default settings of the video card, nor can I see any mpeg specific adjustments I could have made...

How do I find out what codecs are installed on my system?

Yes, the problem occurs with all types of MPEG file.

Is it possible I'm using an out of date/corrupted mpeg codec?

No ideas as to whats going on? I'll try a format in a few days, but i'd really hoped to avoid that.
