Canon XL 2 Noise

I'm a newbie to video. In the following configuration, (16:9 / 24-fps, lens 20 X / auto-focus) horizontal lines (such as fences, solid line objests...etc) seem to have movement to them on playback. Yesterday while taping a person on a medium shot, there was this affect on their upper-lip and teeth.
I notice this horizontal movement more when zooming.
I would very much appreciate comments.
Thanks
Matthew

Are you talking about moire patterns, or something else? Please describe the 'noise' effect in more detail. Is it sporatic bursts of 'sparkles' like 'mosquito noise"? Is is shearing? Colored pixelllation in blocks?
