My Windows Videos are playing "dark" and "distorted."

Lately my videos have been playing "dark" and somewhat "distorted" through my Windows Media Player and Real Player. The problem is not my monitor, because all of the other video/imagery that plays through it is normal. Anyone have any guesses?

Glen,

I had a similar problem once. This happened after I installed an update to the DirectX code. As I recall, uninstalling and then reinstalling the video drivers worked for me. Might be worth a shot.

It could be the overlay settings need adjusting.

Have a look in your graphics card's configuration software for settings for brightness/contrast/gamma and adjust them.

I got exactly the same thing with my Nvidia 6600 graphics card - video overlay settings just didn't seem to 'stick'. Videos would be all dark until I open the Nivida control panel and opened the video & TV settings, when all would be fine - until I opened another video.

I updated the graphics drivers at www.nvidia.com and it fixed the problem. Could this be the same thing you are seeing, Glenn?
