Where to look...

I am pretty new to the filming arena, my expertise lies in those nifty little disposable cameras you buy at wal-mart and then putting the pictures together and flipping through them so it looks like a movie, kind of. Ok, I'm dumb as a post when it comes to video stuff.

I have been looking at the Canon XL2 for about a year now and slobbering all over the place when I see one. I would really like to get one to some outdoor filming with dogs and all. I would like to hope that I could pick up the filming relatively easy but I get all kinds of confused when people start throwing out all the technical stuff.

Where could I look to start figuring out the terms and what they all mean. The 24p or i or 720/60 stuff. Just get the deer in the head lights look when I read about this.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I would love to be able to get into this type of thing.

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Les

Les, probably the least painful way to get your feet wet would be the book, "Digital Video for Dummies" - no joke, even though I'm against the labeling of people the "dummies" series usually has a good starting point and this one's no different. It won't make you into Steven Spielberg but it'll get you started.

It's available at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, etc... Steve

I also like the book "digital filmmaking for teens". It's a great book with more practical, less theory stuff. And pictures and a DVD with a little project they made for the book with real teens! Lots of fun.
