Process Utility

Anybody have a link or know of a utility that can tell me what all those running processes are and whether or not I can shut them down.

I'm experiencing serious shortness of cpu breath.

On Windows?

Something like this:

http://www.neuber.com/taskmanager/

(Not freeware).

Alternatively, open Task Manager and click the Processes tab to see what processes are running and Google any that seem greedy...

e.g., on this computer, the Symantec antivirus etc has a number of processes. One is "ccSetMgr.exe". Googling with that name yields a lot of hits, many for websites with information about what the process is + some utilities similar to the one above. Some may be freeware (I don't know).

Hi,

for windows XP, try Task Manager/Processes as mentioned and then
on the Internet, check

http://www.answersthatwork.com/Taskl...s/tasklist.htm

and

www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_index.htm

The free Bit9 FileAdvisor (go.pcmag.com/bit9) can also help by identifying known good files.

Hope this helps.

Cheers, Ian

Thanks, I'll give these a try.

I thought I couldn't possibly need all those processes running, but who knows what they are? Maybe I do need a lot of them.
