Looking for media players that allow external monitor viewing of rendered files
I am looking for a media player (free or for pay) which will allow me to view files already rendered in my NLE on an NTSC monitor while it is playing on the computer, the way you can generally do with your NLE from the timeline. I am specifically looking for one that does not require me to be in my NLE, but that will play the file as a stand alone (e.g. vlc, media player, etc.) player and simultaneously (or give me the option) to send the stream from the player to my NTSC monitor hooked up via firewire to an AV converter.

BTW, the reason I am not just using vlc for external view is because when I go into reference and try to set the directx device nothing happens. I know there is some activity with the monitor and videolan because when I hit play with vlc in vcr mode the color monitor goes gray, but still no image play.
