used Canon XL-1
I'm looking at purchasing a used Canon XL-1,3-4 years old, (NTSC) with standard equipment package. It's in good condition. I've been asked to make an offer. Any idea what something like this would be worth?

The standard XL-1 kit, when new, ran approx. $4,000. The value of a 3 yr old cam will, of course, depend on its overall condition, particularly with regard to its tape transport and head wear. Unless you've had a chance to shoot with it and see the footage it would be hard to judge this. In excellent condition I might guess it to be worth around $2500-$2700.
Perhaps the best way to get a baseline valuation is to see what they're going for on eBay.

Good suggestion, eBay. Got one there last year, good condition, basic camera, $2500.
