Time Coding Help

hi,

i was wondering if anyone could help me out since im still a novice to shooting and just got myself a gig. i need to do a video shoot with my sony vx2100. after the shoot i need to transfer the footage from the tape to dvd for client to view. this person will then take notes on how he wants the footage edited and provide the info to the editor. is there a way to display the time codes onto the dvd when i make the transfer so that the viewer will be able to track the footage? to clarify, i want the client to be able to see the timecodes when he plays the dvd.

if anyone could help, i would greatly appreciate it. Thank you!

Most NLEs have a TIMECODE fx that you can drop in over the video track to allow for that. I do it all the time for corporate clients and TV commecials using Vegas. I'm pretty sure you can do that with just about any other NLE also.

What software will you be using to do the editing and creation of the DVD?

Many non-linear editors (NLE) (editing software programs) will allow you to display the timecode as part of the video. Sony Vegas, for one, does this. Check out the help files in your NLE.

Then, your timecode will be visible when you create the DVD.

Dan

hey dan,

thanks for the info.. well, i dont have editing software.. i might take it to an editor because it needs to be ready asap in a day. as far as when i record, do i have to set anything so that the time code is recorded? or the time code is automatically enabled and i just set up via the editing program?

thanks,

al

Al: please don't cross-post your question on multiple forums. I've merged your two threads into one.

Thank you for your consideration.

Time and date information for each frame is imbedded in DV video stream data (make sure the camera time and date is correctly set before shooting).
