Transferring with a cheap camera?

Hello all, I have an XL1 that I am shooting a documentary with but I also have a cheaper JVC minidv camera...
My question is this, should I, or would it be better if I use the JVC to playback and transfer my footage to my computer to save wear and tear on the XL1's heads? I know digital is digital, but does a cheaper camcorder transfer as well as a more professional camera?
Using firewire of course.
Thanks in advance!!

Yes Chris, many people do this, like me, because of the reasons you stated.
No problem, go ahead.
