buisness side of a music video
A semi-known band has apporoached me to do a video for them. They are on an independent label and say the label has no money to give for the video (which I beleive). I asked to get my production costs covered and 1.5% of dvd sales. Is there a standard rate that people ask for when they work for free? The project is really interesting and a very huge director has worked with this group in the past so the videos will get noticed. On the other hand I am a student and never really get opportunities so I don't know if should do it at the risk of being screwed. What would you do?

Hello,
I do not have any specific business advice on how to handle this particular situation..(I will be facing a similar situation soon with a lesser known band who want to distribute a DVD which i am finishing right now..) But one suggestion is to try this website: www.mvwire.com it is a website devoted to the music video industry..and may have some more specific info or people who can help you out.. mike moncrief |
