Hellp!!
Im going absolutely insane here at college. There are so many resources here that no one uses but because im a freshmen. I'm not allowed to touch them. While they sit there and collect dust, I pull my hair out. I have more experience than seniors here and yet I am not allowed access. I'm not some joe shmo that is going to break it. PLEASE HELP ME!!!!! Okay, end rant.

Anything specific you are referring to? Try speaking to the department head or any "adult" who is running the place.

You are paying a bunch of money to go there and should have access to any resources available. Go see the person in charge of that stuff, or if you think they will be jerks, skip them and go see the dean in charge of that program/school. Deans are usually very accomodating if you are not a nitwit, whereas professors/staffers are **usually** more territorial and rule-bound.

Too late to help you now, but if there are high school seniors lurking they can learn from your lesson. Some schools are better at this than others. When my nephew decided to follow in my footsteps I highly recommended my alma mater to him because some of the "good" schools that had made the short list for both of us don't let you touch the equipment until after you've taken the basic production course which they don't let you take until at least your second semester if not second year. Whereas at my unknown state school I was standing behind a camera within a week of arriving.
For you specifically, I agree with the advice you've already been given: find an adult. And when you do be persuasive (not whiney). They don't know that you're not some shmo who's going to break stuff until you tell them. Good luck. |
