Good video camera for $2,000

I have been working for a company that has provided a sony FS100 for shooting.
Will be leaving the company soon, and will be buying a new camera.
My question is:
i would like to buy a FS100 but, the price is steep, even used. What camera for around $2,000 can I buy with comparable specks?

Interchangeable lens capabilities
Large chip
24/30 fr

Any suggestions

Thanks, Ron

A dSLR will fit your budget.

Will one fit your needs?

Will you need a camera with professional audio capabilities as well?

Re: Good video camera for $2,000

Ron Jones...my recommendation would be to start looking through the 'Classifieds'. There are pre-owned cameras listed all the time and most folks are willing to negotiate reasonable offers.

I hope this helps.

Regards,

J.

Re: Good video camera for $2,000

I could be wrong but I don't think a $2000 camera with interchangeable lenses and XLR inputs exists.

Closes you could come is a DSLR with a separate recorder. And even then you'll only just get maybe two lower quality lenses.

I don't think you'll even find a used camera to meet those requirements for $2000.

Similar spec - none.

If you waited patiently, you might get some one that's desperate to get rid due to some genuine reason. And only then you may be able to source an FS100 pre-owned or even a EA50.

Otherwise, new ... I would recommend the VG30.

Re: Good video camera for $2,000

Thanks All.....I did see a FS100 used on ebay that will probably go for around 2,000 but, I don’t trust where it came from. Anyone had any luck on ebay with camera buys?

Re: Good video camera for $2,000

Hi Ron

There seem to be a few EA-50's going used now as well so they are worth looking at. Audio is brilliant and you will prefer the form factor to the FS100 plus the pic profiles are almost the same so you would be comfortable with one.

I have two of these and they have been awesome! Even brand new after rebate B&H have them for around $2700 so you should easily find an almost new one in your price range.

Don't suppose your employer would do you a good deal on the camera you're currently using ?

Re: Good video camera for $2,000

Hi Ron -

As others have said, it's going to be a challenge to find an interchangeable lens camera with XLR inputs for less than $2000, but, as of this post:

- you can get a used NEX-EA50 body on eBay for $2430,

- you can get a used NEX-EA50 with the 18-200 power zoom on eBay for $2699, or

- you can get a new NEX-EA50 with the power zoom from Adorama for $2725 (after $600 mail-in rebate).

Hope this is helpful!
