Question about Filming a Deposition

When filming a legal deposition, is it typically a one camera shoot with the camera aimed at the person on the stand? Is it customary to also film the attorney asking the questions? What about audio? Do you typically use lapel mics on both the attorney and person on the stand or just one mic that picks up all the audio in the room? Any other tips would be appreciated.

Re: Question about Filming a Deposition

The ones I have done usually just involve the person on the stand, though the attorney definitely needs to be heard clearly. I think one lav on the person on the stand and another lav on the attorney is optimal. If more than two people are talking, the second lav might be placed in a location to pick up as much of the sound as possible.

I point the camera at the person on the stand - the attorneys never seem to want to be seen on camera. Heard, but not seen. I haven't done too many, but this has been the case so far.

Just ask the attorney what they need.

Re: Question about Filming a Deposition

Back in the day when I was shooting them, the firm rule was that the deposed individual is the only personage to appear on-camera.
