WANTED: Modern examples of silent video
We've recently had a need for some video without audio that is destined for playback on large public screens (e.g. Times Square boards, that sort of thing). We also have a large network of digital signs throughout our campus (one of the more advanced of such networks in higher education), and these too are silent (because many of the displays are located in places where audio would quickly become a nuisance when they run a 10-minute loop all day).
As any of you know who've tried it, editing without sound is very different than with it, because you rely entirely on visuals for pacing, impact, flow, etc. I'd love to find some good examples (online) of short *silent* videos and films that are current (e.g. not Charlie Chaplin films from the 30's), just to see how other editors have approached the lack of audio. I suppose one could say (in a way) that videos with only a music soundtrack rely heavily on visuals too...but even then, the music still provides edit points and aural cues to story/message development. If anyone knows of any good "modern silent video" examples, please link to them here! Thanks, Scott |
