Cabling Question
I have a cabling question and I am not sure if this is the correct place. I need to run a live feed 200'. It is a fairly difficult run going through the entire building so I only want to do it once. Next year, we will be upgrading cameras so it will be an HD-SDI feed, but for now, we are using the trusty ole DVX.
Here is my plan. Let me know if it will not work: I plan on running the HD-SDI coax so when we get the new cams, we are ready to go. However, what I want to do now is run the coax and put a standard cable tv connection on it. I will run from the cam (RCA) to an RF modulator. Then just put standard coax connections on the ends and run it that way. When our new cams come in, I can just snip the ends and connect BNC. Will this work? Thanks in advance, Derek

Re: Cabling Question
You might not need the RF modulator. You might be able to run the composite video over the coax cable with just a BNC connection. It's worth a try, and if it doesn't work, just use a BNC to F adapter and put in your RF modulator as you originally planned.

Re: Cabling Question
FWIW I've hooked up to pool feeds on SD signals that ran 300 ft or more without problems. You can pick up some phase shifting due to, I'm guessing, either cable capacitance or inadequate shielding, but the signal was ok....

Re: Cabling Question
I also have run 200+ feet with GOOD quality RG6 cable sending composite. My cable has recently gone into service sending HD-SDI out to about 200 feet but I WILL be buying all new Belden cable Q2 of this year JUST to make sure...
And yes, you CAN just snip the ends off and add new connectors if you do go the F-Connector route..
