I saw this MiniDV Camcorder 3CCD camera at Camcorder info.

http://www.camcorderinfo.com/content...der-Review.htm

The JVC GR-X5US is selling for under 1k.

How does this compare to the Canon GL2 or Optura models?

Would this be a good first camera or back up camera? I don't need a lot but I want something robust.

Would it be more like the new Optura 600 coming out being a still camera/camcorder hybrid?

well. i prefer the color of the canon opturas. they have an RGB color filter and a fair amount of manual settings. it's not a 3ccd but i think it does a better job of color and picture than some of the lesser expensive 3ccds. i sell cameras btw. that's why i know their picture qualities by heart. but ya know you can probably find a used xl1 for a grandish. that's what i'm considering for a back up camera.
