How do I insure my camera?
Hi,
I'm considering buying a Sony FX1, but I think it'd be wise to get it insured. How can I go about doing this? Can I simply put it on my house insurance, or do I have to pay monthly with another company? Thanks, -Mike |

Insurance
I put all my camera gear on a seperate binder through my homeowners policy. I list each item with a replacement price and they're all covered with no deductable. I dont remember the exact price but it seemed relatively cheap. About $10 or $20 per thousand per year. They are covered for everthing even if you accidently break them your self. Its much better than any extended warrantee. They won't cover T.V.s but since I bought my Plasma set without a tuner it is classified as a computer screen and is covered for as many years as I keep paying ! Just a note: Check with your agent. I've never had a claim but I bet they would drop me if I had more than one. Alan

Sounds like a plan. I think I'll still buy the extended warranty though, for purposes of speed in repair/replacement.
I'll use the insurance as protection from theft. Thanks |

You need to be careful. Many homeowners policies specifically exempt business-use property. When you have a claim, if it comes out that you are a videographer, they may deny your claim despite taking your premiums.
