Video Frame Rates of New iPod Touch.
A client wants to supply some video diary footage from an ipod touch. He sent me a test that was fine but was 29.97fps. Can they record 25fps and if so where is this set in the menus?
Many thanks! Mike

Nope, no 25p (I have one - 4th Gen).
It has a menu setting for PAL or NTSC for "TV Signal Output" - just checked - but as far as I'm aware it's still only 30p shooting (never hooked it up to a TV or tried to edit it). I may be wrong so if anyone knows for sure...Great device otherwise and the "HD" Video (almost - they cheated a bit by using non-square pixels) is not half bad (in good light) for something that you always have with you in your pocket, if the device is "handled well" Video specs grabbed from Apple site below.

Thanks a lot Andy!
I found the "up to 30 fps" spec as well, hoping it meant a range of frame rates were available. Bit of a pain if it's only 30 fps.

Re: Video Frame Rates of New iPod Touch.
I know it's been a few months since you asked, but I found an app called "Filmic Pro" that among other things, allows for custom framerates, including 24p and 25p. I haven't given it a try yet, but it seems to be getting good reviews.
I think the "up to 30 fps" is because it automatically selects the framerate depending on the lighting. In low light conditions, I think the iPhone 4 and iPod Touch automatically switch to recording 24p. The iPhone 3GS if I recall correctly switches to 15p in low light. I'm not sure if Filmic somehow overrides this built-in framerate throttling or how that works. |
