LANC Jack
The tip of my LANC jack snapped off. Wikipedia says its a 2.5mm jack.
http://pinouts.ru/DigitalCameras/sony_lanc_pinout.shtml Should I be able replace it with a 2.5mm stereo jack which is used for audio? I can save myself a lot of money, by cutting the existing cable and soldering it on. I'd rather get a $3 for 2.5mm stereo jack B&H sells the Varizoom cable but its $25 with shipping. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/212184-REG/VariZoom_VZ_EXT_L10.html |

I've read of others doing it OK. They must be cheap brass, how did it happen?

Should be able to pick one up at the local Radio Shack, and yes, it's a standard stereo miniplug, just be sure you don't get the slightly larger 1/8"...

I bought it off ebay for a second camera and I can't remember if it came that way or I did it the very first time I used it. I've plugged in my other lanc remote hundreds of times without it ever happening. I have no way to be sure whether it came that way but in a dark theater and the camera is mounted high on a tripod and your using feel to reach up, find the right jack and push it in. Since there is no tip broken off in the lanc jack in the camera I think it must have come that way.
