What Does NLE "See" from Sony VX2000
Not sure which forum to use and embarrassed to ask such basic question, but what "codec" (if that is right term) does Sony VX2000 output from its firewire connection? In other words, what does an NLE "see" when VX2000 firewire is connected?
I download Sony VX2000 tapes (SD) into Avid/Pinnacle Liquid NLE via Firewire connection and it just works so I never tried to understand more about it. Now I am upgrading to Media Composer 5 (MC5) and I hear it is not so easy to download AVI files into MC5. I kind of thought AVI was output from VX2000 firewire but don't really know--would appreciate advice. Thank you, Dennis |

The codec is simply called "DV". You should have a project setting for "NTSC DV" which is DV for North America. It is 720x480 interlaced at 30 frames per second. Use a preset project type because it is a very specific format. Don't try to make up your own project template or you will get something like the field order wrong and it won't work.

Thankyou Chris and Marcus
Thank you Chris and Marcus, Using set-up instructions for Avid Liquid I had set "codec presets" to AVI (DV) so now I see why that was the recommended preset. I am upgrading to Media Composer--MC-- (primarily because Avid has dropped Liquid) and I have seen some posts indicating difficulties importing AVI codec into at least MC 4. I will pursue this AVI issue more on MC forum now that I know what VX2000 is exporting via firewire. Regards, Dennis
