Weird DV capture/transfer problem

Don't know if this is the right forum for this or not.

I am having a weird DV transfer problem lately. Every once and awhile one of my tapes that is captured has unusable footage, it is all garbled and looks like a bad tape or something.

However when I watch the tape in the camcorder it plays fine. It even appears to play fine during the capture (Vegas 5). However the file that is created is unusable.

The weird thing is that if I play the tape in the camera for a second and then just press capture in vegas (as opposed to capture tape), it will capture it fine. Does this indicate a time code error?

I'd say this is happening on about 1 out of every 15 tapes I capture.

PS, I use my Sony TRV38 to capture all my tapes.

Any ideas?

That is a bit weird, however I don't see how this could be related
to time code. It seems like it is either mis interpreting the data
coming from the machine or perhaps you are having tape problems
(but somehow the display is masking that).

I would run a tape cleaner and perhaps try a different firewire
cable. How clean is your system you are running this all on? Did
you update to the latest version of Vegas 5?

Also try a demo of www.scenalyzer.com, see if that has
the same problems.
