PAL and NTSC

I'm about to ship a PAL coded DVD (region free) to the US.
I'm just curious... Can your TV sets play PAL? I know the new
PAL sets here in Sweden do NTSC, and if they are old the picture is black and white.

But what happens with a PAL coded disc to a NTSC televison set?

I might have put this thread wrong, please feel free to movie it!

Thanks,
Andreas

PAL won't play on our TV's, unless there are new sets specifically designed for this that would crop off the bottom of the picture and decrease the refresh rate, and I don't know of any. It should play fine on a PC/MAC though.

BTW - When NTSC plays on your TV's are they letterboxed or stretched to fit the screen size?

I've found that it depends on your DVD player and TV. Some DVD players will on the fly convert from PAL to NTSC, while others are capable of reading PAL discs but not the conversion. Most TVs in the US are NTSC only so it mainly depends on your player.
