Solution to queue video on demand like a Broadcaster?

Hey everyone.

I have a client that wants to digitize years of archived sports footage and have quick access to the games. They basically want to be able to call up a game and select the footage for playback or editing.

I think there are plenty of options for encoding but I'm open to suggestions. I'm also thinking that they're going to need a large storage array and some client software that can apply metadata to clips for easy recall.

Has anyone here done something like this before? What software did you use?
