DV data mps?
Anyone know what is the data rate of dv footage during capture over firewire?
I've ordered 3 bridge-boards (dual HD) from Granite Digital and I'd like to make a 6 bay HD storage rack of IDE drives and want to make sure I have sufficient throughtput capabilities. |

The video portion is 25mbps. Then there's audio and some other information (timecode, user bits, etc.). Adam Wilt's DV FAQ has some information on it. Various formats differ slightly in the size, but DV is about 3.6MB/s and 13GB/hour.
http://www.adamwilt.com/DV-FAQ-editing.html#DataRate Firewire drives should be sufficient for DV. Just watch out for configuration issues- some combination of firewire devices may not work for capturing DV or printing to tape. |
