Alex wrote -" AV mode will also utilize gain without your control."

If you manually set the aperture at f1.6, the Av mode will play with the shutter speed, not the gain, will it?

OTOH, if you use Tv mode (Shutter priority), then the cam will play with the iris aperture and may get into gain, if you set the shutter speed too fast.

I welcome others to comment, but I assure you, it does utilize gain. It's considered an AUTO mode with the one exception you specify by choosing Av or Tv.

Now, let me qualify that by saying if it's not needed, obviously it won't use it, i.e., out by the pool at noon.

Thanks. Note that the color temp is not due entirely to the ND filter, I was toying with the white balance and I guess I changed something inadvertently. Also, the intersection in the distance is approx 200 yards (my best guess). As a frame of reference, the red vehicle in the third shot is a full size ¾ ton Dodge truck.

This experiment illustrates two things, 1) the ND filter built in to the GL2 is roughly three stops, and 2) the DoF made possible by using it.
