Dear Roger,
The HD-SDI output of the Sony EX1 is a 4:2:2 10-bit signal. This is what is commonly called an "uncompressed" signal as it has not gone through MPEG2 compression.

Thanks Dan,
Adjusting to the EX1 is taking some time. So using the SDI output for direct recording via a Nano HD unit should provide excellent quality? Roger Dowling South Australia. |

Dear Roger,
The HD-SDI output provides the highest quality signal that you can obtain from the Sony EX1. Yours is a very good camera that produces outstanding images. Yes, you can record to Convergent-Design's nanoFlash or Flash XDR in order to achieve the highest quality that your camera can produce. In addition to Convergent-Design's products, there are other ways of recording a HD-SDI signal.
