Got a new fast PC and have a capture issue.

Hey guy's I got a new PC yesterday and am trying to capture some video.

My old PC was an older laptop not sure the specs on the video card.
1.86GHz processor with 1GB of Ram. THe video card is what ever came in the laptop. 37 GB Hard drive (not sure the speed). I never had a problem with capture and play back of .avi files. I captured with firewire to an external 500GB hard drive.

My new PC
Vista
dual quad core 2.3 Ghz
4GB ram (64 bit)
OEM video card: ATI Radeon HD 3200. I think this was built into the system. The new video card that was installed into the PC. video card NVIDIA 8800 GT 512MB (High end)

With my new PC all my .avi appear in slow motion and very jittery? Which is the same as what it looked like before I got the new video card installed. I am capturing with firewire into the same 500GB hard drive.

When I play back old captured footage it looks great. But not what I capture on this new system. So I know I am having a problem with the capture.

As I am typing this I may have figured out the problem.

I used the same connector ports for my firewire connection and I am concerend that I am capturing with the old video card? Does this seem reasonable and is there a way to confirm this?

How is the best way to set up this new PC to capture?

Hi Guy,

I may not be understanding you correctly, but the firewire port is separate from the video card.

It would help to know about the software and camera you're using. Also what happens during capture. If you put the camera in camera mode does an image appear, and does it look normal... etc.
