live (security / weather / traffic) cameras

The company I work for Clipstream http://www.clipstream.com is helping a client pick a camera for monitoring a wide area. Not for security purposes but so people can log into a web page and see activity over a wide area (think horizon). We have sold our Live software for this purpose but the client is seeking the hardware solution.

For our purposes we need a camera that will capture video not JPEGs that will then be linked to a PC. Does anyone have experience with a high resolution remote monitoring camera and have recommendations? The client was also looking at cameras that can be remotely pivoted, etc. as an option.

The camera must be:
- video / DV
- colour
- weatherproofed or be able to be put in that kind of enclosure
- linkable to a PC (Firewire or other method)

In the past we've used our Live software for event broadcasting with the XL1S, GL2, and similar DV cams but have no experience with remote monitoring cams.

Check out http://www.supercircuits.com/STORE/home.asp

They have some really cool toys there. A few years ago I bought a small lipstick sized weatherproof camera that I used for live video feed and it worked great. Wide angle, excellent in low light conditions, color, and auto focus. It was pretty reasonably priced. It was analog (not firewire) and needs a 12v power supply hooked up to it. They may have firewire ones now but I don't know.
