optura pi vs sony trv22 help

hi every one,

i am trying to compare these two cams. i heard people said that optura pi is the best single ccd cam ever made. the reasons that i want to compare these two are: 1. price 2. manual control 3. the look.

i have a budget range from 500-1000. In between this range, i found several cameras that are competitive to one another. such as the canon's zr series and sony's trv 19 to 39 and etc... basically i've decided trv 22 as the best buy (some people might doubt it) cause it packed with lots of functions and a low price.

i almost run out the buy the trv 22 and at that moment, i figure if i should do some more research on the discontinued models.. that's when i found the option of optura pi.

since it's still avalible for around 1000 bucks.
it fits my budget.
it's tempting because the progressive scan and the optical stablizer and rgb thing make the cam has better picture quality. (don't know much about the low light situation thou)
it also has plenty of manual controls.

the retail stores don't have them anymore, so i can't actually try them out at the shop...

therefore, i hope that people with experiences on using optura pi could help me out. and give me some advise..

any comments are welcome

thank you all every much

Yeah, the Optura PI has been discontinued for quite sometime now, uh 2-3 years maybe? Maybe more? You might be able to find one on ebay. To me, the best consumer level 1CCD camera under $1000 would be the Panasonic DV852, but it has been "discontinued" also, but you still might be able to find one, and I don't think there is a replacement yet. I'd personally stay away from the Canon ZR's and any camera under the TRV38 on the new Sony lineup.

Here's 2 good options, better then the Sony, to me, atleast. Panasonic (mat****sa) rocks. ;)

For $900 you could get a 3CCD camera, too. 1/6" CCD's though (not very good in low light) but it beats the crap out of any other camera in the price range.

Won't be long before you'll be able to get a used Canon GL1 for $1000.

There is a new-in-box Optura Pi available at Cal's Camera in Costa Mesa. Tell them you found out from me, that I know Jon (send me an email if you need to know who this is), and see what they'll do for you. Hope this helps,
