Multiple Programs & Computers
Not sure where to post this, but here goes...
For years I've had various editions of Vegas on separate computers. I'd transfer files from one computer to another for various post activities with relatively simple supplementary software. Right now I have four PC computers which will soon absorb an influx of big programs such as Adobe Illustrator, Corel Paint X, Dreamweaver , Photoshop and two animation programs. Whew! Anyway, for those who use these programs, how do you juggle these programs among computers? That is, putting animation software on one computer and pairing off other software (Illustrator, Paint) on another...can specialized files from each program always be easily swapped and worked on between computers? I can't imagine one mega-computer taking on the whole shebang. All of these programs will interact one way or another (including Vegas); I'm wondering if any of you have a large array of programs and how you organize them. Do you have a limit on how many programs you keep on each computer? If all this sounds rather naive a question, I accept all responsibility. :D Thanks! |

Actually, I go with the single mega-computer model as I seldom do everything at the same time. And I think as systems get bigger (16 cores anyone? - how about 32 or 64 0r 128?) having more stuff in one box is more practical.
I do have a couple of other systems that I use for distributed rendering for 3D graphics over the network, but that isn't particularly relevant for video. I've never had a problem with Corel, Photoshop, Illustrator, Cinema 4D, Lightwave, Rhino, TurboCAD, Audition, etc being on one system as long as there's plenty of memory and hard drive space etc. |

That's an impressive list; my computers have 1 GB memory and tons of hard drive space, so it's good to know that might be acceptable for a whole laundry list of programs.
