Radeon vs nvidia?

Any preference between them and why? I have an 8600gts and 6200 running in one system its ok, had the same in another and finally had to take them out and go with a radeon 1650 and 1550 which works much better, was wondering if I should do that with my other system as well? Its expensive to have a bunch of nvidia cards just laying around but getting things to work is much more important, so is one better than the other? how about with Vegas 7 or premiere or after effects?

Thanks.
