can i capture DV into divx directly?
can i do that? just plug the camera and capture instead of huge DV files capture into divx 5 directly?

I think you can if I think I remember seeing an ad on videomaker that will allow you to capture to MPEG-4 which is essentially DiVX. I'll go through them when I get hoem and check. But then again maybe it is a puff the magic dragon dream...

There are a number of capture applications available that allow
you to store the movie realtime in a number of formats. Whether they support Firewire AND DiVX is a good question. I suggest you try searching on VCR software or CAPTURE applications. Virtualdub might do it...
