workstation
Want to build new PC mainly or video editing and maybe future HDV editing.
I was looking at Conroe E6300 or E6400 ,P5B Deluxe or P5W DH mobo(price is still high). As reading about a mobo it accepts only SATA??I cant use my older IDE drives?? Video card with TV/capture and 2 outs for monitor would be nice, otherwise I'm not a gamer so I dont need high end video card. I hope it will be faster than my current P4 3.2Ghz,1GB RAM laptop. Is this a good combination?? |

if it won't support Your IDE oldies, You can always use ext USB box for those. USB2 works so fast that You can easily cut/edit with AP2.0 up to 12 parallel AV tracks with no probs.

cpu to buy
consider the 6600, it's probably the sweetspot on price/performance.
Makes me wish I had not built an AMD last fall (sigh). Also, there is always an addin card for internal IDE support. Adaptec is still pretty good with these. |
