Capture from XL-1S

Hi All,

I have recently purchased an XL1s and besides the autofocus problem (which seems to be common knowledge, judging from other threads) I have a capture problem.

When I connect my other Cams to the firewire (cam in VCR mode), my DV500 PLUS and Adobe premier software identify the cameras straight away and everything is "plug and play"...no problems.

However, when I plug the XL-1s onto the firewire there seems to be no detection of the camera... it prompts a message that there are "no DV devices connected" when entering Premier 6.0.

In VCR mode the XL-1s does display "DV-IN" .... which tells me it does see the firewire.

Does the XL1s use the "DV Control" switch in the menu or should it be in VCR mode for capture.....the manual seems vague to me. Either way the software does not pick up the XL1s Camera.

Does the DV-IN blink, or is it solid?

It should be in VCR mode.

Hi Dylan

Thanks for your reply....the "DV IN" is solid in VCR mode.
It only flashes when its in Camera "DV CONTROL" mode.

The XL1s is still not being seen on the FIREWIRE. (VCR MODE "DV IN" solid)

I have always had problems with Premiere recognizing my XL1S. Sometimes you have to turn the camera off, restart Premiere, and turn your camera on. Then try capturing again.

Capture from XL-1s

Or, you may not have the drivers you need. Windows 98 doesn't have them, but Windows 98 SE does.

If it recognizes the other cameras the OS should be fine.... Do
you have any chance to test your XL1 on another machine?

Hi All

Its actually Mark Whitlock here....I am using a friends PC for the moment.

My operating system is WIN 2000 and I have still not been able to get the XL-1S to be recognised by the system.

I will be taking the cam to another chap who has Canopus and Pinnacle editing suites.

Do you think that my Pinnacle DV500 driver could be influencing the CAM (the driver I currently use is 2.0.0.0 for the DV 500 - yeah I know its old but I have projects that will not work on later drivers due to the Pinnacle AVI FORMAT)

....AT A LOSS

It could be that the card or its drivers are interfering here. Easiest
way to check that out it get an el cheapo firewire card and test
that one out. The only other things that come to mind is a busted
firewire cable or something is wrong with your camera (which the
test you are going to do should inform you with).

Good luck!

capture

Another possibility... When I installed my firewire card it had three input slots. Only one of them works for input from the camera, which I found out by trying all three.

Capture problem notthe camera

Hi all,

Its Mark Whitlock here again ... THREAD ORIGINATOR

It seems that the problem is in fact not with the camera but most likely with the Pinnacle drivers/software.

I managed to test the camera on a Pinnacle Studio and Canopus DV REX RT setup and all was ok, I even tried using my original Firewire cable suspecting that mine was faulty....but the camera was detected without a hitch.

This leads me to the conclusion that this is a Pinnacle Driver problem as indicated earlier in this thread.....I will obviously need to continue this question in another thread as it is no longer a Canon XL-1S problem.

Thank you guys for your replies!

Mark

Again a Pinnacle problem... It seems they just cannot get their
drivers together. I mostly here problems about their products,
which is a shame.

Most of the people out there now are buying Pinnacle I think....
