Problem adding fades between two JPEGs

Hey everyone. It's coming down to the wire on one of my projects... its a dedication to a major contributor of my college and we are working with a ton of JPEGs and some video material.

My problem is, that no matter what I try, I can't figure out how to add a fade or dissolve between two JPEGs in Avid Xpress ProHD.

Interestingly enough, in the quick transition box, when I add a fade between a video file and any given JPEG, it won't allow me to start the fade on the video clip, only on the JPEG (Starting or ending at the cut).

Any suggestions?

If the fade is not working, put the JPEGs in AB style editing (slightly overlapping by 15 frames on two different timelines). Now, set a key frame at the overlap on A, add transparency through which effects tool you have so that it is transparent by the end of the clip. In B, add a keyframe at the point where A stops overlapping. Add transparency to 100% at the beginning of the jpeg and to 0% at the keyframe.

It you want longer crossfades, lengthen the overlap.
