External HDD Case for WD Velociraptor
Hi Folks,
Just upgraded my OS/Apps drive to an Intel SSD, from a WD Velociraptor; but I want to be able to use the WD as an external hard drive. I bought a 3.5" case (Vantec Nexstar 3) but the Raptor's bulky built won't fit inside. My question: is there an external hard drive case brand that would fit a Raptor drive? The WD Velociraptor is a 300G/ WD3000GLFS. Many thanks, --JA

Re: External HDD Case for WD Velociraptor
I put mine in a 3.5" case using a 2.5 to 3.5 inch adaptor.

Re: External HDD Case for WD Velociraptor
I have gone to internal hot swap trays instead of external cases. I really like being able to pop a sata drive in and change it when I want. I have to use a program called hotswap but it works like a charm.
This is the product I purchased from Newegg. Newegg.com - KINGWIN KF-1000-BK 3.5" Internal hot swap rack There is an issue when using a Velocirator in that you have to use a credit card or something similar when removing the drive. It has a wire spring that will fall into the cooling part of the drive preventing it from coming out. Other that that issue I have found it to work with everything I have put in the rack. |

Hi Alan,
Any chance you can post a link to your adaptor? Many thanks!

Does the Kingwin charge you everytime you use the credit card? Or is the fee hidden like BofA? (Sorry, couldn't resist :) Maybe I'll take Alan's advice and get a cable adapter instead. I think this one will work: Newegg.com - Rosewill SATA 1.5 / 3.0 / 6.0 Gb/s Internal 2.5" & 3.5" HDD to USB 3.0 External Adapter w/ both 2.5" and 3.5" Black Silicon Protection Case for HDD
