Hi Michael. I've moved your question to our PC forum where I think you'll get a better response than the audio forum where you posted it.

Michael,
I came close to buying a laptop instead of my current desktop. Based on the recommendation from a couple of friends, I was seriously looking at PowerNotebooks. They are value added resellers of Sager and other brands. Interesting note about laptop manufacturing, NONE of the majors vendors (Dell, IBM, HP etc) make they're own laptops, they just rebrand them.

There's nothing in that article that says Apple doesn't make their own laptops.

Previous quote edited to be 'technically' correct.

But Apple doesn't manufacture their own either unless they've just recently bought the ODM that has been making theirs for years.

I am occasionally using my 16 inch Sony Vaio laptop for video editing. It came with firewire, the only upgrade I had to make was a USB 2.0 PCMCIA card. It's a 2.4 GHz P4 with 512 megs of RAM. The only limitation is the size of my projects as this machine came with a relatively small hard drive. Other than that it works great!

Ervin, I have a close friend who has a Sony laptop, and I'm quite impressed with the ergonomics, speed and capability if not the price (ouch, Sony gouges almost as much as Apple). But until Sony hardware recognizes they have a software division (Vegas, Sound Forge, etc.), and starts offering some sort of bundle or at least complete compatibility, I can't consider them.
